Eulogy

Where to begin with Eulogy…

This project was a huge undertaking by Jamaica Society Leeds, but the impact it had was phenomenal. Eulogy is a project that celebrates the lives, history and heritage of Leeds’ first generation Jamaicans who are no longer with us. It culminated in an exhibition that took viewers through history, witnessing each part of Jamaica’s impact on Leeds and the world.

As part of the project, we were commissioned to create not one, but 2 films. Firstly with bundles of incredible archive footage from sources in the UK and Jamaica, alongside Jamaica Society Leeds we created a timeline of Jamaica’s history right up to the huge influence Jamaican culture has had on Leeds through the years.

Throughout the life of the project there were many events and workshops bringing together the Jamaican community to tell stories, record memories and have a good old sing along. The second film captured all of that and serves as a memory of a project that had a breath-taking impact on Leeds.
